1. Pre Sign-up

How much will it cost to release my music through EmuBands?
EmuBands charge a strictly one-off fee per release, please see our prices below;

Single (1-2 tracks) - £24.95
EP (3-5 tracks) - £34.95
Album (6+ tracks) - £49.95

So are there any other hidden fees?
Not at all! The one-off fee that you pay per release is the only cost you will incur to have your music available through EmuBands. We do not charge any annual, maintenance or storage fees.

What percentage of my earnings do EmuBands take then?
Absolutely none at all! We account 100% of all the royalties generated from the sale of your music straight back to our artists and labels. This means that what the stores give to us, we pass directly on to you!

Am I giving EmuBands the rights to my music?
No. You retain 100% of the rights to your music.

What other artists/labels have used EmuBands to distribute their music?
To date EmuBands have been responsible for distributing thousands of musical works worldwide, ranging from established artists such as Paul Weller, Leona Lewis and Glasvegas to smaller unsigned and unpublished acts.

I am interested in using the service, what do I do next?
In order to have your music distributed by EmuBands you will first have to create an account with us. This can be done by clicking the 'Join Us Now' button.

2. Adding A Release

Why do I need to enter the information for my release in my EmuBands account?
In order to allow the stores to display your release correctly along with the correct track listing etc, we require certain information from you. The data that you enter will be submitted to the stores as you have entered it. For this reason it is important that you are careful to enter all information correctly and to double check this before finalising your data. Please note that once you have finalised the data you will be unable to make any changes.

What if I don’t understand one of the fields that I am required to enter information for?
Next to each field there will be a blue information circle. Clicking this will display further information about what is required in this field. If you are still unsure, simply contact your account manager or email us at ‘info@emubands.com’.

How do I pay for my release to be distributed?
Once you have added your release to your EmuBands account you will be provided with full instructions on how to complete payment. We accept payment via Credit/Debit card, PayPal or if sending a CD we can accept payment via cheque. You can also use any existing royalties to pay for new releases (NB you must have sufficient funds in your royalties balance to cover the payment amount).

3. Submitting Audio And Artwork

How do I submit the audio files for my release?
After adding your release to your EmuBands account, you should now submit your audio files. We can accept your audio in two formats

  • WAV Format: Please send us WAV files (clearly marked with artist name and track number) using www.yousendit.com (or similar service) to 'audio@emubands.com'.

Please ensure that your WAV files are 16 bit (sample size), 44.1kHz (sample rate) and 1411 kbps (bit rate) WAV files.

  • CD Audio: Alternatively, if you have a copy on CD, you can post this to us on the below address;

EmuBands Ltd

Suite 1.08

Hillington Park Innovation Centre

1 Ainslie Road

Glasgow

G52 4RU

UK

NOTE - We need either CD Audio files on CD, or WAV files electronically. Please do not send us MP3 files, or if sending WAV files on a CD-R, please mark clearly on the CD that the files are WAV format.

How do I submit the artwork for my release?
We only require front cover artwork for each release - please send this to 'artwork@emubands.com' with the specs below;

  • JPEG Format
  • 1000x1000 Pixels
  • 300dpi
  • RGB Colour Mode
Alternatively if you are posting us your CD and this has printed artwork, we can use this to take a high-resolution scan of your artwork.

NOTE: that you may not include: email addresses, URLs, any other contact information or any pricing information on the artwork.

4. What Happens Next?

I’ve added my release, sent you the audio and artwork and completed payment for my release, what do I do now?
Once you have completed all of the above, you can now sit back and wait for your release to go live!

When will I see my release live in stores?
Unfortunately EmuBands does not have control over when your release goes live as each store varies in their processing timescales. We see most of our releases live or ready for release on iTunes within 48 hours, however due to the processing timescales of other services when aiming for a coordinated release date we recommend allowing 4-6 weeks lead in time where possible.

What if after 6 weeks my release is still not live?
We work closely with stores to ensure that any release that is not live within normal timeframes is followed up. If however 6 weeks have passed since your release was delivered please don’t hesitate to contact your account manager and we’ll do everything we can to find out why it has yet to go live.

What stores will my music be available on?
We currently distribute to over 150 stores worldwide including all major online and mobile retailers such as iTunes, Spotify, eMusic, Napster and We7. We are constantly expanding our store list to ensure our customers maximum coverage.

How long will my music be online for?
Your music will remain online until you notify us that you wish it to be taken down.

I want to remove my release from the digital stores that it has been distributed to , how do I go about this?
Simply notify us via email that you wish us to request the removal of your release from the digital services.

NOTE: For security reasons you must make the request from the email address registered to your EmuBands account.

I would like to make a change to my release but it has already been distributed, is this possible?
After your release has been delivered we can ask stores to make data changes e.g. altering a release date. All data change requests are charged at £10 per release, this covers multiple changes to the one release.

5. Royalties

How do I find out how much I have sold?
Any sales made will be displayed in your EmuBands account under ‘Royalties’. We upload sales reports as we receive them through from the stores, this will be either quarterly or monthly depending on the store.

When do I get paid my royalties?
You can request payment at anytime – as soon as royalties are displayed on your account you can request payment of these via your preferred payment method.

How do I request payment of my outstanding royalties?
You can request payment by logging into your EmuBands account and viewing your 'My Royalties' section - from here you will be able to request payment of your current balance. You need only specify how much of your balance you would like to be paid and how you would like to be paid. Payments can be made via PayPal or BACS.

How much does each store pay?
The royalty rates paid vary as each store takes different percentages and operate on different pricing models.

How are mechanical royalties paid for downloads?
Mechanical royalties are, in general, automatically paid by each store with the exception of sales from North America. If you have signed a publishing deal, or have released a cover version and have had sales for these tracks in North America then you may have to pay a small percentage of your royalties to a publisher. If you think you are likely to have to pay these royalties, please get in touch with us by e-mail and we will do our best to help you.

6. iTunes Trend Reports / Daily Sales Data (*Optional)

What data will I be able to see?
You can view sales for each day from iTunes that shows the release / track title, the country of the sale, and even the postcode / zipcode of the person that downloaded your music.

Why is Daily Sales Data useful to me?
Daily Sales Data allows you to check regularly your sales on iTunes, the world's biggest digital music retailer. You can monitor sales spikes from specific promotional activities, monitor sales per postcode region to assess sales after specific tour dates, and they can even be useful in planning tours - you can find out in which postcode areas you have been successful and therefore know that you have fans in that area.

What is the difference between Daily Sales Data and My Royalties?
Daily Sales Data monitors the 'Click To Buy' links on iTunes - therefore there may be a very slight anomaly between the Daily Sales Data (uploaded daily) and the monthly royalty reports that are uploaded a few weeks from the end of each iTunes sales month, due to, for example, connection issues / failed payments. In addition, the monthly royalty reports don't contain the postcode / zipcode data of your customers.

When is the data available?
Daily Sales Data is usually uploaded around 3pm on the next working day (Monday to Friday, excluding UK bank / public holidays).

How much does it cost?
The cost is only £10 per month.

How do I subscribe?
Simply click on the subscribe button above, and you will be taken to PayPal who administer the payments for this subscription.

When will my subscription become active?
Your subscription will become active the following working day, or sometimes the same day.

Do I need one subscription per release?
No, your subscription covers every release under your account.

How long does my subscription last?
Your subscription will last for one calendar month and then renew automatically on a monthly basis until you unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe during a monthly period, your subscription will remain active until the end of one month since your last subscription payment.

How do I unsubscribe?
Once you have subscribed, an unsubscribe button (similar to the subscribe button above) will appear on this page - just click that button and follow PayPal's instructions to end your subscription. Once you have unsubscribed, you will no longer be able to download any of your Daily Sales Data unless you resubscribe.

7. Miscellaneous

I would like my release to be distributed physically too, can EmuBands do this?
No. We specialise in digital distribution only.

What is the difference between a permanent download and a stream?
A permanent download means that someone bought your music from a store and downloaded it to their computer, laptop, mobile device etc. A stream is when someone listens to your song but does not own it and has not downloaded it.

I would like to submit a biography with my release, can you pass this onto the stores that you work with?
No. EmuBands does not have the ability to submit biographies to stores. We advise submitting your release to the All Music Guide to have your release/band bio featured on the online stores.

My release is set up for SMS Purchasing, but the direct to mobile downloads aren't working. What is wrong?
A direct to mobile download transfers a large MP3 file from the internet to the user's phone. With this in mind, the user will need to have a phone with WAP capabilities and be in an area that has 3G data coverage. If they do not have 3G data coverage, the track may take significantly longer to download, and may time out.

What happens if EmuBands start distributing to a new store, will my music be on there too?
Yes. You can keep upto date on information such as store updates by following us on Twitter (@emubands).
