It is more important now than ever for bands and artists to get noticed. Social media sites make it easy for us to have information readily available to the public, however it is important to be able to show concisely the important information in a professional yet creative form. This will help your band stand out from the crowd when competing for radio pluggers, festival spots, or recognition from a record label.
An electronic press kit (EPK) is a great way to display relevant and up-to-date information about yourself or band.
A good EPK should include:
• A short biography
• Any mentions or features in the press, reviews, etc
• Dates of any upcoming performances
• High quality photos
• High quality audio files
• A high quality video, if possible
• Contact information and any external links to your band’s pages (NB not personal pages!)
Presskit.to are a company who can help you create an electronic press kit. They provide three online packages – Starter ‘kit, PRO and Premier. Presskit.to provide EPKs for musicians, producers, DJ’s, managers, labels and even publicists, media and venues.
Their new Facebook App allows customers to add their EPK to a tab on their Facebook page, and Presskit.to have also recently synced their EPKs with songkick.
Sophia Moon is the Chief Marketing Strategist for Presskit.to. She advises that a video introduction may be the way to set you apart from the competition. Once you have recorded your introduction you can add it to your EPK. Here is Sophia’s blog ‘Make A Great First Impression With A Video Introduction’ which offers great advice on how to make a video introduction.
