  4. How to Get Your Lyrics on Spotify and Other DSPs

Lyrics displayed on digital music platforms are generally managed separately from the audio and metadata delivered by EmuBands.

One of the main services used by digital music platforms to source and display lyrics is Musixmatch. By claiming your artist through Musixmatch Pro, you can add, edit and synchronise your lyrics so they can appear alongside your music on supported platforms.

How do I add my lyrics?

To get started, you’ll need to create a Musixmatch Pro account and become a verified artist.

  1. Visit Musixmatch Pro and create an account. Musixmatch offers a free plan which allows artists to add, edit and synchronise their lyrics.
  2. Once logged in, go to Roster and select Add artist.
  3. Enter the URL for your Spotify artist profile and complete the information requested by Musixmatch.
  4. Submit your request for verification. Musixmatch will review your submission and will usually contact you by email within a few business days.

We recommend signing up with an email address associated with the artist, label or management company, as this can help Musixmatch verify your connection to the artist.

How do I add lyrics once I’m verified?

Once your artist has been verified, you can add and manage lyrics directly through Musixmatch Pro.

  1. Go to Roster and select your artist.
  2. Find the relevant track under To Do or Music.
  3. Select Lyrics.
  4. Add or edit the lyrics and select Send to submit them.

If your release isn’t showing in Musixmatch, go to Music > Add missing release to add it manually. Musixmatch advises that it can take up to 48 hours for a missing release to appear.

Can I add synchronised lyrics?

Yes. Musixmatch also allows you to synchronise each line of your lyrics with the audio, allowing listeners to follow the lyrics in real time on platforms which support synchronised lyrics.

From your Musixmatch Pro account, select the relevant song and choose Sync. You can then listen to the track and set the timing for each line before submitting your changes.

How should I format my lyrics?

When submitting lyrics, you should:

  • Include the lyrics in full, including repeated words, lines and sections.
  • Avoid shortcuts such as “x2” for repeated sections.
  • Only include words which are actually performed in the recording.
  • Use section tags such as #VERSE and #CHORUS where appropriate.
  • Submit lyrics in their native script.

How long will it take for my lyrics to appear?

Lyrics and changes won’t necessarily appear immediately after you submit them.

Once submitted and processed by Musixmatch, it may take a few days to get your lyrics on Spotify or other DSPs, or for changes to appear on supported digital music platforms.

Do I need to pay for Musixmatch Pro?

No. Musixmatch offers both free and paid Pro plans. The free Musixmatch Pro plan is sufficient to add, edit and synchronise your lyrics on Spotify.

Paid plans offer additional Musixmatch features, but you don’t need to purchase one simply to manage your lyrics.

Can EmuBands add or change my lyrics for me?

No. EmuBands delivers your music and release metadata to digital music platforms, but lyrics displayed by services such as Spotify are managed separately.

If you need to add, edit or synchronise your lyrics, you should do this directly through your verified Musixmatch Pro account.
