What is the YouTube Likeness Detection tool?
The Likeness Detection tool is a new feature in YouTube Studio that helps creators and artists identify and manage content where their face may have been altered or generated using AI.
Who has access to this feature?
The beta feature has been enabled for EmuBands’ artists with Official Artist Channels (OACs).
How does the tool help artists?
This feature supports artists in three key ways:
– Identify usage of their likeness
Detect videos where their face appears, including AI-generated or altered content—even for multi-member groups.
– Safeguard their identity
Submit removal requests for unauthorised content that violates YouTube’s privacy guidelines.
– Protect their audience
Help prevent fans from being misled by inauthentic or manipulated content.
Who can manage likeness detection and removal requests?
Currently, management is handled at the individual artist level within YouTube Studio.
Managers and editors of an artist’s OAC can:
– Access the tool
– Review detected content
– Submit removal requests on the artist’s behalf
Note: YouTube is developing a CMS-level solution, but this is not yet available.
How do artists get started?
Each individual who appears on camera must enrol separately by following these steps:
1. Go to YouTube Studio
2. Select Content Detection from the left menu
3. Open the Likeness tab
4. Grant permission for biometric processing
5. Submit:
– A government-issued ID
– A short video of their face for verification
How long does activation take?
After submission and verification checks, the feature typically becomes active within approximately 5 days.
Can artists opt out?
Yes. Artists can opt out at any time by requesting to stop likeness detection.
If they opt out:
– YouTube will stop searching for their likeness
– Any biometric data collected for this feature will be deleted from YouTube’s systems
Does this work for bands or groups?
Yes. The tool works even if the OAC represents multiple people. However, each individual must enrol separately for their likeness to be detected.
Is this feature mandatory?
No, participation is completely optional.
How do I get an Official Artist Channel (OAC)?
To qualify for an Official Artist Channel, you must meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements and have an active Pro or Premium subscription plan with EmuBands.
If you meet these criteria, please contact your EmuBands account manager via the ‘Support’ section of your EmuBands account, and our team will help you set up your OAC.
